I’ve been publishing for over two years now both independently and traditionally, and I know how expensive it can be to find editors and cover designers, so I have decided to offer my services for those on a lower budget, with flexible prices and the option to negotiate!
With a first-class degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, experience in editing both academic journals and fiction, and over twenty published works under my belt, I can offer plenty of aid when it comes to feedback, from the big developmental aspects such as plot, structure, and characterisation, to quick corrections in spelling and grammar. I dabble in most genres, so if you’re not sure where to send that manuscript, I might be the right person for the job!
I also create all of my own covers on Canva, both illustrated and photorealistic. It’s important to note that I’m no professional, but when cover designers are too expensive, you might consider an alternative. So, if you’re interested in hiring me, here’s a rundown of the services I offer:
Developmental editing
Developmental editing is usually the first step in polishing your manuscript, so if your story is ready for another set of eyes but you know it still needs detailed feedback focusing on plot, structure, characterisation, setting, and all the key components that make a book come together, it might be time to hire a developmental editor! My ideal price would be £0.03 per word, which would work out at around £1800 for a 60k manuscript and £2700 for 90k. This includes a total of two readthroughs, the second after you have made suggested changes. However, as mentioned, I am open to negotiation. Have a budget? Tell me, and perhaps we can work something out.
Copy Editing
The biggest part of polishing your manuscript might be done, but we all know how easily mistakes can slip under the radar. If you’re looking for a keen eye to find any missed errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and all that technical stuff, I’m here to help. My prices begin at £0.01 per word — £600 per 60k, and £900 per 90k. Again, if you’re looking for something slightly lower, let’s chat (within reason, of course).
Proofreading
Proofreading is usually the final step in the editing process. You may have hired plenty of editors at this point, but you can always guarantee a few errors have still been missed. Let’s check! My services begin at £0.005 per word, which equals £300 per 60k.
Mentoring
The writing process isn’t easy, and sometimes it isn’t enough to get feedback after the first, second, or hundredth draft. As a published author experienced in story-telling, I can give you feedback on a regular basis, whether it’s looking over the occasional chapter or answering any burning questions you might have in regard to your story and how to make it the best it can be. These one-to-one sessions can be arranged via email, video call, or any medium of your choosing and can happen as often as needed for you. You have all the say! Prices will be a Ko-fi donation of your choosing.
Cover design
I’m no graphic designer, but I do happen to enjoy putting together covers on Canva. If you’re looking for an inexpensive cover for your soon-to-be-published book, this might be an option to consider. My prices start at just £15 per cover, and I can also offer paperback wraparounds for an extra £5.
Graphics
In need of some promotional graphics? Marketing is a huge part of being an author, and readers are more likely to click that link if you include images. With access to Bookbrush mock-ups and Canva, I can create and personalise any promotional images of your choosing, whether you’re preparing for a cover reveal or ready to shout about your story.
